He then completed his medical degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C.  Dr. Dettling then went on to complete his orthopedic surgical residency at the University of California followed by the completion of an orthopedic sports medicine fellowship at the world- famous Kerlan-Jope Orthopedic Clinic in Los Angeles, CA.  Dr. Dettling is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and is a diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners.

Dr. Dettling's orthopedic sports medicine training included assisting the team physicians for the LA Dodgers, LA Lakers, LA Kings, LA Galaxy, Anaheim Angels, Anaheim Mighty Ducks and USC football.
